Kai Po Che Movie Review

Kai Po Che Movie Review

Kai Po Che!
Rating: 4
Story:
Kai Po Che! is a film directed by Abhishek Kapoor based on Chetan Bhagat's novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life , with music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire. Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh star as the three main protagonists while Amrita Puri plays the female lead respectively. The story revolves around three friends who want to start some business. Where one friend is an Ex district player who was a victim of politics in the cricketing space, the other one is the nephew of a hindu politician who funds their business and third one is a nerd who is the mastermind behind starting a sports shop and also a sports academy. The story deepens into the earthquake and Gujarat riots and how that affects their life.

Direction:
Abhishek Kapoor, One of my fav directors of recent times is back to shower bromance on silver screen after a very successful ROCK ON! However it’s not always an easy task for any director to make a movie out of a very successful novel (here it is 3 Mistakes of my life by chetan bhagat), cos possibilities are that your work will be directly get compared with the novelty of the book, but hatss off to Abhishek for adding some real crispy twists within the story which makes you glued to your seats till the sudden climax strikes you hard. Abhishek has very smartly woven the different emotions of life through the canvas of beautifully captured landscapes of ahmedabad poll. Abhishek has showen more maturity in the department of direction this time in comparison of ROCK ON! He has given enough scope to his talented cast for showing their brilliancy. Direction of the movie is up to the mark. Abhishek is sure going to get a nomination for this.

Music:
The biggest plus point of Kai Po Che is its music given by Amit Trivedi, after working as a theatre and jingle composer and composing for non-film albums, he debuted as a film composer in the 2008 Hindi film Aamir, and shot to fame in the Hindi film music scene with his critically acclaimed work in the more popular Dev.D, since from that day he is my personal fav music director. Music composed by Amit in Kai Po Che is just awesome, though just three songs in the movie; placement of the song in a movie is just perfect, taking the story forward. Superb work by amit trivedi.

Performances:
Considering that Kai Po Che is a social drama, It’s always important to assemble a very talented cast. And brownie points to the casting director of Kai Po Che for giving a chance to new talent, and the selection of actors are such that it seems they are born to play the characters of Kai Po Che. Sushant Singh Rajput playing the role of Ishaan is simply outstanding; he’s performance climbs upward emoting various phrases of relations as the movie progresses to the finale. He can restrain his emotions and can deliver the right expressions at the right time. Sushant is surely going to beg many nominations for his debut. Amit sadh playing the role of Omi, is a revelation check out his outburst in finale, he is definitely going to stay long here. Raj Kumar Gupta who already has shown his caliber in LSD, Shaitaan, Talaash shines again in the role of Govind. He has given a complete new dimension to the character of Govind. Just one word to say Awesome. Amrita Puri playing Ishaan’s sister and love interest of Govind is efficient and cute.

Cinematography:
Just like music, cinematography is also the biggest plus point of Kai Po Che. Cinematography by Anay Goswami capturing 90’s pols & streets of ahmedabad is brilliant. He’s effort is definitely worth an award.

What I like most:
I like the very realistic take on relationship; it’s definitely something different in comparison to other movies we’ve seen of same genre. Music, performance, cinematography and direction are the strongest part of the enterprise.

What I don't like:
Love angle between Rajkumar Gupta and Amrita puri though cute slackens the pace and works as a speed breaker. I am little bit disappointed with the sudden climax.

Overall:
On the whole Kai Po Che is worth a wait. After a gap of 4 Years Abhishek has served us something for which he will feel proud whenever he will look back to his career. With some fine performances by leading actors, Awe inspiring music by Amit Trivedi, superb direction and cinematography as a trump card, Kai Po Che is a sure winner for UTV. A Must Watch
