Special Chabbis

Story:
Special Chabbis is a Bollywood heist drama film directed by Neeraj Pandey of A Wednesday fame. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles with Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai and Anupam Kher in supporting roles. The film is based on a real life group of con artists who pulled off many clever robberies during 1980's, and robbed famous businessmen and politicians by pretending to be the CBI or Income tax officers, on the pretext of conducting raids they would take away all the black money hoarded by them, the film also takes its concept from the real-life daring heist dated 19-March-1987 where the same group posing as CBI officers executed a daylight income tax raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs
Direction:
Neeraj Pandey who has shown his brilliancy with his debut movie A Wednesday is back with an intelligently woven, slick and smart period thriller with its subject matter as its USP. However its always tough for a director to make a film on real incidents as it has very little scops to add entertainment values whoch is very necessary now a days to make your film get noticed, but i would like to give brownie points to neeraj for coming out with a very intelligent adge of the seat thriller which hardly gives you time to think. Actually Neeraj has rewritten the formula of making thriller films in Bollywood. Whether with his first outing A Wednesday and with Special 26 now, what evident is that this supremely talented director know his work well, he has the grip to glue his audiance with a sheer experience of genuine drama which is rare this days in hindi cinema. Make my words, neeraj will be one of the contenders for best director category in 2013. Take a bow sir!!
Music:
Being a period film on real incident there is a very little scope for music in Special 26. However M. M. Keeravani & Himesh Reshammiya has done a very well job by coming out with a very decent album which soothes the mood of the movie. Again a good decision by neeraj, as the music in the movie is just give some oomph in this very fast paced thriller. My fav is promotional song sung by Akashay Kumar "Mujh main tu" . All other songs are strictly okay. I would like to give a Special mention to the background score of the movie which is in a sync of the movie. Never over the top. brownie points
Performances:
If you have Akshay Kumar in the movie, half the game you've won. Akshay kumar is just brilliant in the movie as a con man. He is so sinciere in his part that sometimes you genuinely get the feeling that he is the real CBI officer. After attempting brianless comedies and action thriller in recent years, this is the film which I feel has given akshay kumar a stand to show his brilliancy, and the actor has grabbed the oppurtunity with both the hands and has come out with the performance which he will be proud when look back in coming years. Worthy an award (atleast this time).
Talking about other actors in the movie, Manoj bajpayee & anupam kher is the one who take the rest pie with there one of the best performances. You can always rely on anupam kher when it comes to display the comical side with a pinch of seriouseness & the veteran actor is just brilliant. Manoj bajpayee on other hand is just perfect in this cat and mouse chase story. Watch out his uncounter with senior officials and you will know why he is a actor of his own choice. Jimmy shergill is perfect too. Kajal agarwal as a love interest of akshay kumar has not got more scope but is efficient in a small role as a girl next door. In a nutshell again a home hit from neeraj for doing complete justice with a very talented cast.
Cinematography:
Cinematography by Bobby Singh is adequate, capturing the mood of the script very well on celluloid.
What I like most:
Neeraj has woven the real life con incidents of 1980's very intelligently in the script, the flow of the movie is such that you never realise that it reached the finale. Second half of the film is just outstanding, Brownie points again to neeraj for coming out with such an out of the box finale! just like what we experienced in A Wednesday, shocking though satisfactory.
What I don't like:
Love angle between Akshay kumar and kajal agarwal which slow down the first half, can't we make movies without song. However the songs are very well placed it serves as speed breaker, actually the pace of the script is such that you don't want anything else to be placed within.
Watch It on: Worth to watch in theatres, its a movie worth to watch with your family. Get ready to spend some money. Akshay is back to swept your pocket. But let me assure you, its a paisa vasool.
Overall:
After serving us a very edgy social thriller A Wednesday, Neeraj pandey has towered his status as a director with his second outing Special 26. With this its sure that Neeraj is going to stay long and is going serve us for long years. A true talent. In a nutshell, Special 26 is a must watch for many reasons, first and foremost is that it never takes viewers intelligency on stake. This is one is a true winner. For classes and masses both. Leap this con men tale.
